We are updating the prices of the domain names listed below due to increases in registry and wholesale costs.
JMail Component Removed from Shared Hosting

Today we are removing the w3 JMail component from our shared hosting web servers. This takes effect immediately.

Why is JMail being removed?
Since 6th September 2026 our shared hosting mail servers only accept encrypted SSL/TLS connections. JMail is a Classic ASP component that was discontinued around 20 years ago. It has no support for SSL/TLS, so it has not been able to send email through our mail servers since that date, and there is no setting or update that can fix it.

Does this affect my website?
Only if your website sends email using JMail in Classic ASP. Any script still using JMail has already been unable to send mail since 6th September. Removing the component does not change that, but those scripts will now show an error instead of failing silently.

What do I need to do?
If your website uses JMail, the script needs to be changed to use CDOSYS. CDOSYS is built into Windows and supports SSL/TLS. Please make sure CDOSYS is set to use port 465 with SSL enabled, as described in our SSL/TLS announcement. A full working example is available here: Sending Mail Using Classic ASP CDOSYS

For most contact forms and similar scripts, this is a small change to the part of the code that sends the email.

Need Help?
If you are not sure whether your website uses JMail, or you need help updating your script, please open a support ticket and we will be happy to help.

We appreciate your understanding in helping us keep our shared hosting mail platform secure.

Shared Hosting Removal of PHP 8.2 - January 2027

In January 2027 we will be removing PHP 8.2 from our shared hosting web servers, and PHP 8.3 will become the default PHP version.

Why is PHP 8.2 being removed?
Security support for PHP 8.2 ends on 31st December 2026. After this date it will no longer receive security fixes, so it is not safe to keep running on shared servers.

What happens to my website?
Any website still set to PHP 8.2 will be moved to PHP 8.3 automatically. Most websites will carry on working without any changes, but older scripts, plugins or themes may need updating.

What should I do now?
We recommend switching your website to PHP 8.3 or newer now and testing it, so any issues can be fixed before the change. You can select the PHP version your website uses in the control panel, with PHP 8.3 and all newer versions available. Refer to www.webwiz.net/kb/controlpanel-tutorials/website-change-php-version.htm for more information.

What if I need PHP 8.2 in the long term?
Our Enterprise Web Hosting plans are not hosted on a shared server and can be set up with the PHP version of your choice. For more information, visit www.webwiz.net/web-hosting/windows-dedicated-web-hosting.htm.

More questions?
Please contact support at www.webwiz.net/support

WordPress Security Alert - Please Update Your WordPress Sites

We have started receiving notifications from the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) about WordPress websites on our network running versions affected by a serious security vulnerability. If you run a WordPress website with us, please check it is up to date as soon as possible.

What is the Issue?

In July 2026 two vulnerabilities were found in WordPress itself: CVE-2026-60137 (SQL injection) and CVE-2026-63030. Used together, an attacker can read your website database, create their own administrator account and take full control of your site, without needing to log in. These vulnerabilities have been actively exploited since July, and attackers are scanning the internet for sites that have not yet been updated.

Affected versions:

WordPress 6.8.0 to 6.8.5

WordPress 6.9.0 to 6.9.4

WordPress 7.0.0 to 7.0.1

These are fixed in WordPress 6.8.6, 6.9.5 and 7.0.2 (or any later version).

If your site is running a version older than 6.8, it is not affected by this particular issue, but older versions will be missing other important security fixes, so we would still recommend updating to the latest version. If your site is several versions behind, it is a good idea to take a backup of your files and database before updating, as older themes and plugins may need updating at the same time.

What You Need to Do

1. Log in to your WordPress admin area.

2. Go to Dashboard > Updates and click "Update Now".

3. While you are there, update any plugins and themes that have updates waiting.

WordPress normally installs security updates automatically, but this does not always happen, for example if automatic updates have been turned off by a plugin or setting. If your site has not updated itself, please update it manually.

Check Your Site

If your site was not updated before the end of July, it is worth taking a few minutes to check nothing has been changed. Updating WordPress fixes the vulnerability, but it will not remove anything that may already have been added to your site.

1. Go to Users and check there are no administrator accounts you do not recognise.

2. Go to Plugins and check there are no plugins you did not install.

3. Check your website pages look as expected and do not redirect visitors elsewhere.

4. Change your WordPress administrator passwords.

If anything looks wrong, please open a support ticket and let us know.

Old or Unused WordPress Sites

If you have an old, test or forgotten WordPress install that you no longer use, please delete it, including its database. Forgotten installs that never get updated are one of the most common ways websites are compromised.

Need Help?

WordPress have a simple step by step guide to updating here: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/updating-wordpress/

Improved Spam Filtering for Shared Hosting Mail

During June and July we saw a rise in reports about our spam filtering, both spam getting through and legitimate email being wrongly filtered. Since the end of July we have been rebuilding it, and that work is now complete and running in production.

What You Will See
Suspected spam that is delivered to your Inbox is now marked at two levels instead of one:

SPAM-LOW: - some spam characteristics
SPAM-MED: - stronger spam characteristics

Messages we are confident about still go to your Junk Email folder, with no marker. Which messages get filtered has not changed, only how clearly the warnings are labelled.

What Has Changed Behind the Scenes
We have replaced two third party spam engines with a new platform built on Rspamd, an open source filtering engine running on our own infrastructure. We have added reputation feeds from Abusix and Spam Eating Monkey, retired a block list that was no longer earning its place, and reweighted the rest against several weeks of our own mail traffic.

We also check the quality of what our filters learn from. When someone marks a message as junk, or moves one out of Junk, that decision is reviewed by AI before it trains the filters, so one person's preferences do not affect everyone else. Mail from banks, government services and well known retailers is protected from being wrongly learned as junk altogether. None of this affects delivery or filtering, only training.

The result is fewer legitimate emails being wrongly filtered, while genuine spam continues to be caught.

What You Need to Do
Nothing. If you would prefer marked messages to go straight to Junk, you can set up a content filter in Webmail, or open a support ticket and we will help.

Reminder: SSL/TLS Required from 1st September 2026
From 1st September 2026 our shared hosting mail servers will no longer accept unencrypted connections. Most modern email clients already use SSL/TLS and need no changes, but please check yours before then. Full details, including the settings needed for Classic ASP CDOSYS: Shared Hosting Mail - SSL/TLS Required from 1st Sept 2026

Need Help?
If you have questions, or believe a legitimate email has been wrongly filtered, please open a support ticket. Reports of wrongly filtered mail genuinely help us improve the filtering for everyone.

At Web Wiz, we are committed to keeping our shared hosting mail platform secure for every customer. As part of this commitment, we are disabling plain-text (non-SSL/TLS) connections to our shared hosting mail servers.

What is Changing?
On the 6th of September 2026, our shared hosting mail servers will no longer accept unencrypted connections. Every connection - IMAP, POP and SMTP - must be secured with SSL/TLS or STARTTLS. We support the modern, secure protocols TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3, so your mail is fully protected in transit. The mail server ports are not changing; only unencrypted sessions on those ports will be refused.

This change affects how you connect to send and collect your own mail. It does not affect normal delivery of incoming mail from other senders, which continues as usual.

Why is this happening?
We are seeing a high volume of brute-force login attempts against mail accounts, the majority of which target plain-text connections. In this day and age there is no reason to send your email username and password unencrypted across the internet. By requiring SSL/TLS on every connection we significantly reduce the attack surface and better protect your mailbox credentials.

What You Need to Do
Most modern email clients, such as Outlook, use SSL/TLS by default, so many customers will need to do nothing. This includes MAPI and EWS connections, which are already secure. If you connect using older or manually configured settings, please check your email client before 1st September and make sure it is set to use an encrypted connection. The correct host names and ports are listed here: Email Settings (IMAP, POP, SMTP, EWS, MAPI & CalDAV)

If you use Webmail, there is nothing to do - Webmail already runs over a secure HTTPS connection.

Sending Mail from Classic ASP (CDOSYS)
If your website sends email using Classic ASP CDOSYS, please be aware of an important point. CDOSYS has a long-standing bug in its STARTTLS handling: when configured for the STARTTLS port (587), it can send the connection in plain text rather than upgrading it to an encrypted session. Once unencrypted connections are disabled, scripts relying on this will fail to send mail. To avoid any disruption, CDOSYS scripts must use the explicit SSL port 465 with SSL enabled. A full working example is available here: Sending Mail Using Classic ASP CDOSYS

Need Help?
If you need help reconfiguring your email client or updating your scripts, please open a support ticket and our team will be happy to assist.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our shared hosting mail platform - and your data - secure.

** Edited 2006-09-06 - Due to delays in customers implementing changed, the changes where delayed to the 6th of September 2026.

At Web Wiz we are always working to improve our email platform. We are pleased to announce that our hosted mailboxes now fully support MAPI and EWS (Exchange Web Services), giving you a complete Exchange-style experience – your email, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes all kept in sync across your devices.

What this means for you

MAPI provides a native connection for classic Microsoft Outlook on Windows (Outlook 2016, 2019, 2021 and the Microsoft 365 desktop app).

EWS provides the same experience for Outlook for Mac and Apple Mail.

We particularly recommend eM Client – a fast, modern app for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, and an excellent replacement for Microsoft Outlook. Because you are on monthly billing, the new rates will apply on your next renewal date after 14th July 2026, and will not affect any period you have already paid for. If you do not wish to continue a service at the new price, you may cancel it before the change takes effect.

Item

Old Price

New Price

Mailboxes

£0.25 per month

£0.35 per month

Email Forwarders

£0.01 per month

£0.05 per month

Mail Groups

£0.45 per month

£0.75 per month

The mailbox increase reflects the significantly enhanced service now included with every mailbox, as outlined above – full Exchange-style sync, premium filtering, mirrored servers and daily onsite and offsite backups.

Why are forwarding and mail groups increasing?
Forwarded and group mail is very often sent on to third-party providers such as Gmail, Outlook.com and others. To stop forwarded spam and viruses from reaching those providers – which can cause our mail servers to be blacklisted and damage email deliverability for every customer on the platform – every forwarded message is processed through our outbound spam and virus filtering (Cyren and Message Sniffer). The filtering required to do this safely costs us at least £0.04 per forwarder, and a mail group multiplies that cost across every recipient it delivers to, so the new prices barely cover the cost of keeping this mail clean and protecting our sending reputation on your behalf.

All prices exclude VAT.

If you have any questions about these changes, please open a support ticket and we will be happy to help. Thank you for your continued custom.

To maintain these standards, we are announcing the formal removal of several "End of Life" (EOL) ASP.NET Core versions from our shared hosting servers.

What is Changing?

Effective April 2026, the following legacy .NET Core frameworks will be decommissioned and removed from our shared hosting service:

.NET Core: 2.1, 2.2, 3.0, 3.1

ASP.NET 5 (.Net Core 5)

ASP.NET 6 (.Net Core 6)

ASP.NET 7 (.Net Core 7)

After this date, applications targeting these versions will no longer run on our infrastructure.

Why is this happening?

The primary driver for this removal is security. These versions have long passed their official support window from Microsoft, meaning they no longer receive critical security patches.

Specifically, we have seen an increase in vulnerabilities related to CSV, Remove Code Execution (RCE) and Data Injection. Older frameworks often lack the modern, built-in sanitisation libraries required to defend against leaving the website and web server vulnerable to attacks.

By moving to supported versions (such as ASP.NET 8, ASP.NET 9 or ASP.NET 10), you benefit from updated security, better encryption standards, and native protection against modern injection flaws.

What You Need to Do

To avoid any service interruption, please take the following steps before the April 2026 deadline:

Identify: Check your project's .csproj file or your hosting settings to see which framework version you are currently using.

Upgrade: We strongly recommend upgrading to ASP.NET 10 (LTS) or higher. These versions offer long-term support and significantly improved performance.

Test: Deploy your upgraded application to a staging environment to ensure compatibility with modern libraries.

What if you can't move to a newer ASP.NET version

Option 1. Self-Contained Deployment
A Self-Contained Deployment means that your website will include its own copy of the .NET runtime files inside its application folder, rather than relying on the shared versions installed on our server. This ensures your site continues to work exactly as it does now, even as we remove older, unsupported versions of .NET from the server for security reasons. For further information see; How to Publish Your Site as "Self-Contained"

Option 2. Move to Dedicated Web Hosting

If you are unable to update your application to a newer version of ASP.NET and are happy to accept the security risks, we can provide custom hosting plans that can support legacy applications and frameworks through our Dedicated Web Hosting, for more info see; Windows Dedicated Web Hosting

Classic ASP and Classic ASP.NET is NOT Affected

We want to emphasise that Classic ASP and Classic ASP.NET is NOT being removed at this time. If your application relies on the following, your service will remain active:

Classic ASP: Microsoft has no end-of-support date currently set for Classic ASP.

ASP.NET 2.0 / 3.0 / 3.5: Microsoft has confirmed support for these versions until at least January 2029.

ASP.NET 4.0 / 4.5 / 4.6 / 4.7 / 4.8: Microsoft has no end-of-support date currently set for these versions.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our platform—and your data—secure.

As global standards from Google and Apple push for shorter SSL certificate lifespans starting from March 2026 (moving toward 30-day cycles), we are modernising our SSL infrastructure to ensure your sites stay secure without the risk of manual expiry.

Because certificates will soon expire every few weeks rather than once a year, manual renewals are no longer a safe or viable option. To protect your uptime, we are moving to fully automated systems.

1. Shared Web Hosting Customers

The Plan: Transitioning to Let’s Encrypt Automation Starting in March 2026, we will begin migrating all shared hosting accounts to Let’s Encrypt certificates.

The Transition: This change will take place at your next scheduled renewal.

Final Payment: You will receive one final invoice for your current SSL certificate. This covers the final manual migration and the setup of the automation engine.

The Billing Change: After this final migration is complete, all future SSL renewal charges will be removed from your billing system. Moving forward, this security will be a standard, automated feature of your hosting at no extra cost.

2. Dedicated Web Hosting, Hyper-V Cloud Servers, Dedicated Server Customers

The Plan: Professional ACME Management & Monitoring Dedicated environments require specialised handling to meet the new 30-day industry requirements. We are implementing an ACME (Automated Certificate Management Environment) Client on your server.

Automated Protection: The ACME client handles the high-frequency renewals required by modern browsers.

Dashboard Monitoring: We will monitor your certificate status from our central dashboard to prevent any outages.

Service Charge: To cover the ACME software licensing and our managed monitoring service, a monthly charge of £9.95 will be applied. This replaces the old annual certificate fees and ensures your server remains compliant with Google and Apple’s strict new standards.

Why is this happening now?

Manual renewals are becoming a thing of the past. With certificates expiring every few weeks rather than once a year, automation is the only way to prevent your website from showing "Insecure" warnings to your customers. We are making these changes now to keep your business ahead of the curve.
