Shared Hosting

Dedicated IP address for shared hosting websites has been moved from a separate add-on and is now included in the PAYG Web Hosting pricing. This change will allow customers to add and remove dedicated IP addresses themselves through the hosting control panel.

The fee for a dedicated IP address will remain the same for most customers at £3.95 per month per dedicated IP address. However, a some customers who were being charged grandfather pricing for their dedicated IP address will see a price increase to bring the price of the dedicated IP in line with our current pricing.

As a result of the upgrades made to our servers to enhance the performance of SQL Server databases, there has been an increase in the number of CPU cores, which has led to an increase in the cost of licensing SQL Server. 

When calculated by the number of databases, the SQL Server licensing costs is an extra 15 pence per database.  As a result, we will be adjusting our pricing for SQL Server databases under the PAYG shared hosting services by the same amount . The new cost per SQL Server database will be £1.10 per month, inclusive of the additional licensing cost . We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Starting the 27th of November 2023 we will be making PHP 8.1 the default PHP version on shared servers.

It's crucial to update your PHP versions regularly to avoid leaving your websites vulnerable to hacking attempts. Security support for PHP 7.4 ended in November 2022, and PHP 8.0 will also be out of support in November 2023.

PHP 7.4 and PHP 8.0 will not be removed from servers for now, but it is important to note that they may be removed in the future. This is a follow-up reminder that Reseller Shared Hosting will ne moving to pay-as-you-use pricing. Those customers affected by this change have already been emailed with details of the changes and their new pricing.

Reason:
We stopped providing reseller shared hosting to new customers four years ago as rising costs made it economically unviable. Since then, expenses have increased substantially, with reseller hosting losses of 24%, and we have been trying to figure out how to solve the issue of making these accounts financially viable.

The simplest solution was to increase the price on all the legacy reseller shared hosting accounts. This would have solved the issue, but it did seem unfair to customers who would be paying a higher price to subsidise a small minority of customers using large amounts of resources.

We eventually came up with a solution that seemed fair for everyone, pay-as-you-go (PAYG) hosting, where you only pay for the resources you use. Under the PAYG pricing, most of our customers would pay the same amount or less. A minority whose resource usage is high will see prices increase.
