Data Centre Fibre Outage11 August 2020, in Network, Data Centre, Domain Registration, Shared Hosting, Cloud Servers, Dedicated Servers, Colocation Services
One of the fibre circuits to our Bournemouth Data Centre has loss connectivity. This has been raised with our upstream provider who are investigating the issue.
Traffic that would have been carried over the circuit has automatically rerouted, but we are having reports that a small number of customers are not able to reach our network at this time. Loss of Connectivity We have received reports from some customers that they were unable to connect to our network and we observed a 25% drop in traffic levels. The issue was traced to routing problem with an one of our upstream providers that only became apparent due to the fibre connectivity issue and has now been resolved. The upstream provider has assured us they will be fully investigating and adding additional motoring to ensure the issue does not occur again. We would like to apologise to any customers affected. Updated 19:48 Virgin Media are presently investigating the loss of connectivity with one of our fibres. Traffic to our network has been routed via a secondary fibre. There is no impact to service at this time, however service should be considered at risk due to the loss of resilience. Update 22:01 We have received an update that the fibre circuit issue is caused by a power outage at Virgin Media's local exchange which they suspect is due to the heatwave. Update 12th August 08:55 The Virgin Media Fibre Circuit has been stable since 21:41 last night. Currently we are not routing traffic over the circuit as we wish to monitor the circuit. There is no impact to service at this time. Update 14:45
Virgin Media have confirmed they have mitigated the problem and we have observed a stable connection on the fibre since 21:41 yesterday. Traffic is now being routed over the effected fibre circuit and our service is back to full resilience. We would like to apologise to any customers affected.
